Cardinals rally to top reeling Braves
Baseball Betting Lines
04/26/2010 -
St. Louis, MO (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Yadier Molina hit the go-ahead ground-rule
double in the eighth inning and stole second to get into position to score the
tying run an inning earlier, as St. Louis rallied from three runs down to take
a 4-3 decision from Atlanta at Busch Stadium.
Albert Pujols collected three hits and a run batted in for the
Cardinals, who were able to salvage the finale of a weekend set in San
Francisco on Sunday.
Colby Rasmus hit a solo home run leading off the seventh, his sixth of the
season, and Bryan Anderson provided a pinch-hit RBI double to tie the game
later in the inning.
Kyle Lohse allowed three runs on seven hits in a six-inning start for the
Cardinals. Dennys Reyes (2-0) got the win despite laboring through a scoreless
eighth and Ryan Franklin earned his seventh save.
Nate McLouth and Troy Glaus had run-scoring hits for the Braves, who have lost
six in a row and were swept in three games by the Mets this past weekend.
It was a rough visit to the Big Apple for Atlanta, which scored just three
runs and committed seven errors, including two in Sunday's rain-shortened 1-0
setback.
Tim Hudson worked six-plus innings and surrendered three runs on six hits with
three walks and four strikeouts in Monday's opener to this four-game series.
Takashi Saito (0-1) entered for Atlanta in the home half of the eighth and
Pujols doubled down the left-field line leading off. Matt Holliday popped
weakly to deep second and Rasmus was intentionally walked to get to Molina,
who turned on a 1-0 slider and drove it deep into the gap in left-center for a
ground-rule double.
The go-ahead hit, actually stymied what could have been a bigger rally, as
Rasmus was sent back to third and David Freese hit into a force play at home
for the second out. Brendan Ryan was then caught looking at strike three to
end the inning.
Franklin was brought on for the ninth and erased a leadoff single with a
double-play ball off the bat of pinch-hitter Eric Hinske. Yunel Escobar kept
the inning alive with a base hit, but Franklin induced a groundout from Martin
Prado to finish off the win.
Lohse retired McLouth on a grounder with men at the corners to end the second
inning, but gave up two runs an inning later after loading the bases with one
out. A Brian McCann sacrifice fly dented the scoreboard for the first time and
Glaus ripped a single to center for a 2-0 game.
Lohse was in trouble again in the fourth, as Melky Cabrera led off with a base
hit and McLouth followed with an RBI double. Hudson sacrificed McLouth to
third and Escobar put runners at the corners by working a walk. Prado, though,
lined into a double play.
St. Louis pushed across its first run in the sixth. Skip Schumaker walked
with one away, raced to third on a Ryan Ludwick single to center and scored on
Pujols' RBI groundout.
The Cardinals rallied to tie the game at three in the seventh. Rasmus led off
with a healthy home run to the seats in right and Molina drew a walk to end
Hudson's outing and bring on Peter Moylan from the pen.
Molina swiped second around the frame's first two outs and Anderson's clutch
double to left tied the game. Moylan then walked Schumaker, but limited the
damage by getting Ludwick to bounce into a fielder's choice.
Reyes labored through the visiting eighth for St. Louis, walking two with two
outs, but Cabrera lined out to end the threat.
Game Notes
The Braves won four of six versus the Cardinals last year, sweeping a three-
game set at Busch Stadium from Sept. 11-13...Hudson hadn't allowed more than
two runs in each of his previous three starts...Pujols looked to have his left
(catching) hand clipped at first base in the eighth inning as Chipper Jones
attempted to beat out a grounder. The trainers came out to take a look, but he
stayed in the game...Lohse was able to bounce back admirably from a terrible
outing last Tuesday in which he let up seven runs in three innings versus
Arizona. Still, he remains without a win in four starts this season...Rasmus
ended 2-for-3 with a walk.

Pittsburgh earned their passage to the big game by beating their division rival, the Baltimore Ravens, 23-14 in yesterday's AFC Championship Game. The Steelers jumped on Baltimore early, building a 13-0 first half lead, and never let up on their way to a fairly easy win. Although the Ravens did close to within two points in the fourth quarter, it never appeared as if they had enough offense to pull off the upset.
The Steelers dominating defense held Baltimore to a total of 198 yards while allowing them to convert just three third downs in 13 attempts. Pittsburgh also forced quarterback Joe Flacco into three interceptions, one of which safety Troy Polamalu returned fourty yards for a touchdown.
The Cardinals, by far the playoff team with the longest odds to reach Super Bowl XLIII, did so yesterday with a 32-25 upset of the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship. Arizona charged out of the gates and built a 24-6 halftime lead that had the Eagles venerable defense reeling. Quarterback Kurt Warner and wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald did most of the damage, connecting on three first half touchdowns.
Arizona, however, could not sustain their momentum and the Eagles took a 25-24 with 10:45 left to play in the fourth. The Cardinals, with the franchise's first Super Bowl appearance hanging in the balance, mounted a fourteen play, 72 yard touchdown drive that consumed 7:52 off the clock. Warner hit running back Tim Hightower on a short screen for the go-ahead, game clinching score that will forever live in Cardinal infamy.
MySportsbook.com's Super Bowl XLIII Betting Odds:
Pittsburgh Steelers -6.5 (-110), Over 46.5 (-110), -260 (Money line)
Arizona Cardinals +6.5 (-110), Under 46.5 (-110), +220 (Money line)

Brandon Roy Favorite to Win 2007 NBA Rookie of the Year
Portland TrailBlazer’s guard, Brandon Roy, is MySportsbook.com’s overwhelming favorite to win the NBA Rookie of the Year odds.
Despite missing 20 games due to an injury earlier this season, Roy has definitely put up the best numbers of his 1st year peers. In 32 games, Roy is averaging 15.3 PPG, 4.2 boards and 3.5 assists in over 33 minutes of play per game. While most rookies breakdown as the season progresses (see Morrison), Roy is only getting stronger as his playing time and scoring average has increased each month.
With 30 or so games left in the regular season, Roy isn’t a lock for the award by any means. Other rookies are putting together some pretty impressive campaigns and a few could give Roy a run for the award with increased playing time. Heading the list is first pick, Andrea Bargnani of the Toronto Raptors. Even though he has started only two games all season, Bargnani is averaging 10.3 PPPG while shooting 35% from deep.
Randy Foye of the Minnesota Timberwolves could be set to give Roy the best competition NBA Rookie of the Year betting lines. With the benching of Mike James, Foye looks like he could be the starter in the T-Wolves backcourt for the rest of the season. So far, Foye has averaged 9 PPG and 2.4 assists in just under 21 minutes per game. With his new role of starter, Foye’s numbers will definitely increase. In his first game as the new starting guard this past Sunday, Foye had 10 points; five rebounds and 8 assists. More importantly, he logged 34 minutes of playing time; his third highest run of the season.
Adam Morrison, of the Charlotte Bobcats, was the favorite early on in the season after averaging 15+ PPG through the first month of the season. Ever since his torrid start, Morrison’s point production has declined each month. This really isn’t surprising, considering at 6’8” he only weighs 205 lbs. Obviously he will need to hit the weights big time during the off-season in order to keep from breaking down in the future.
