South Carolina bounces top seed Arizona State from CWS

06/22/2010 -
Omaha, NE (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Jackie Bradley Jr. homered and drove in four
runs while Sam Dyson threw 7 1/3 strong innings, as South Carolina ousted No.
1 overall seed Arizona State from the College World Series with a convincing
11-4 rout at Rosenblatt Stadium.
Adrian Morales hit a two-run homer and Scott Wingo knocked in two with a
double during an eight-run second inning. Whit Merrifield contributed an RBI
single to the big inning and later added a solo home run among a three-hit
game. Bradley also finished with three hits, while Wingo also walked and
scored twice hitting out of the nine hole.
Dyson got the win for allowing four runs on eight hits while walking two and
fanning three for the Gamecocks, who will take on either Clemson or Oklahoma
on Thursday in a continuation of bracket play.
Deven Marrero was 3-for-4 with an RBI to lead Arizona State. Starter Merrill
Kelly was pounded for 10 hits and eight runs in just 1 2/3 innings for the Sun
Devils, who dropped a 6-3 decision to Clemson on Monday to set up Tuesday's
elimination tilt. It was the first time all year ASU had lost consecutive
games.
The five-time CWS champs swept the Tempe Super Regional against Arkansas and
were appearing as the top national seed after a 47-8 regular season.
The top overall seed has not captured the championship since 1999.
South Carolina took complete control in the second inning by batting around.
Morales and Kyle Enders had back-to-back singles to start, and Wingo doubled
in both with one out. Evan Marzilli got on with a base hit, and Merrifield
followed suit to make it 3-0.
Bradley then cranked a three-run homer over the center field wall for a sudden
six-run lead. After the second out was recorded, Brady Thomas kept things
going with a single, and Morales ripped a two-run shot down the left-field
line to chase Kelly and extend the margin to eight.
"Obviously you can't have a start like we did against a quality team of South
Carolina," ASU coach Tim Esmay said. "I thought they did a heck of a job of
putting us on our heels, and I think you have to do that in a game like this
where you lose and you go home."
The Gamecocks then got to Mitchell Lambson for a pair of runs in the third.
They loaded the bases with nobody out and pushed a run across when Bradley was
hit by a pitch. Christian Walker then worked a walk to force in another for a
commanding 10-0 advantage.
Arizona State finally got on the board with back-to-back one-out RBI singles
from Austin Barnes and Drew Maggi in the fifth, then threatened a monumental
comeback in the eighth.
With runners at the corners and one out, Dyson exited in favor of Matt Price,
who was greeted with a run-scoring hit by Marrero. Matt Newman followed with a
pinch-hit RBI single and Price plunked Raoul Torrez to load the bases with one
out and the Sun Devil deficit at six.
Price recovered nicely to strike out both Barnes and Maggi to escape without
further incident. Merrifield the led off the bottom half with a deep home run
to left, accounting for the final score. Arizona State went quietly in the
ninth.

Mens NCAA Basketball Tournament odds
As of February 9, MySportsbook.com has released its coveted 2007 Mens NCAA Basketball Tournament betting odds. “March Madness betting ” only a month away, the top ranked Florida Gators are favorite at 7-2 to win it all. The defending champs have not disappointed at all this season and currently have a 22-2 record and are undefeated (9-0) in SEC play. The Gators’ thrive off of their extremely balanced, experienced and versatile attack. All five starters started in last seasons National Championship game. What is most impressive with this group is their balance; the five starters all average between 10.7 and 13.6 PPG. The Gators have been on an absolute roll having won 15 straight by an average of 16.4 PPG.
Right behind the Gators are the 5th ranked UNC Tar Heels at 9-2. The Heels (21-3, 7-2) are absolutely loaded with top notch talent and are as deep as any team in the country. A concern for the Tar Heels might be inexperience. Of their top four scorers/ minute earners, three are freshmen and the other is a sophomore. The rest of the regular season, the Tar Heels play only one team that is currently ranked (Duke). Their remaining opponents do combine for an impressive 107-58 record though.
Other teams that the MySportsbook.com members seem to believe will win it all include the west coasts’ top team #2 UCLA (6-1), #3 OSU behind man-child Greg Oden (8-1), and #4 Wisconsin (10-1) behind their defense which has given up 70+ points only three times all season.
Below is a list of some of the favorites to win the 2007 Men’s NCAA Basketball Championship lines. For the full list of teams and March Madness odds be sure to log onto MySportsbook.com.
