Stoudemire, Suns play host to Hawks

Basketball Betting Lines

02/19/2010 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The NBA trade deadline has come and gone and Phoenix All- Star center Amare Stoudemire remains in the desert as the Suns prepare to host the Atlanta Hawks tonight.

Stoudemire, who has the right to opt out of his contract after this season, was the object of rampant trade speculation in recent days but the Suns weren't able to get anything done, leaving the talented big man in the middle as the Suns prepare for a postseason run.

Phoenix had been hot recently but fell in its most recent affair, a 107-97 setback to the Mavericks in Dallas on Wednesday. Dirk Nowitzki paced a balanced attack with 28 points in that one as Dallas got double-digit scoring efforts from all five starters.

Stoudemire logged game-highs of 30 points and 14 rebounds amid swirling rumors. The longtime Sun appeared to be going to Cleveland at one point, but the Cavs pulled the trigger on a three-team deal with Washington and the Clippers to land LeBron James a nice scoring compliment in Wizards forward Antawn Jamison.

"I think he's put all that behind him and just decided to play, and done a good job. He's done that, he's played well," said Suns head coach Alvin Gentry about the distractions surrounding Stoudemire.

Jason Richardson had 19 points and Robin Lopez 14 for Phoenix, which had won six of seven entering play Wednesday. Steve Nash recorded 12 assists and nine points in defeat.

The Hawks, meanwhile, opened a four-game western road trip on Wednesday by blowing out the LA Clippers, 110-92, when All-Star Al Horford tallied a career-high 31 points.

Horford went a highly efficient 12-of-15 from the field for the Hawks, who have won four of five overall. Josh Smith added 20 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and four steals, while Joe Johnson contributed 18 points in the win.

"I was very pleased tonight," said Hawks head coach Mike Woodson. "We established ourselves early. Our defense was solid. (Horford) was smooth tonight, and the supporting cast played well. It was a team effort."

Jamal Crawford provided 12 points in a reserve role for Atlanta, which shot 54.4 percent from the field.

The Suns have dominated Atlanta in the desert recently, winning 14 of their last 16 home games against the Hawks, who happen to be shooting for a third consecutive road win for the first time this season.

Kurt Warner to start, Matt Leinart to watch

Despite the debate that's swirling , Kurt Warner will remain the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals, coach Dennis Green said today. The Arizona Cardinals are the +7 point underdog at online sportsbook MySportsbook.com for this Sunday's game.

Green's comment came in a statement released by the team following an ESPN report that Green decided that rookie Matt Leinart would replace Warner as starter for Sunday's game at Atlanta.

"Generally talking about the starting lineup is not something we do," Green told the AP. "However, given the speculation that was out there we want to make it clear. We're disappointed after last week, but we still expect to be a playoff football team and we fully expect Kurt Warner to be the quarterback that leads us. That has not changed."
